Do we focus on physical appearance too much?

How do you respond to the arguments that have been made in this week's reading?  Is our popular culture healthy in regards to beauty?  Do we focus on physical appearance too much?

I think it is almost impossible for people now of days to not care about it. If I drop mustard on my shirt i drive home and put a new shirt on not because i really need a new shirt but because i dont want people seeing me in a mustard coverd shirt. But why do i care so much? why do poeple care so much. I think it shares a correlation with sex. we relate everything in this world to sex, anything that can be sex the media will turn into sex. What people need to get through their heads is that it is not a compition, sure you wanna be known by more than a few hundred people, but you cant beat the computer animatied women, sorry ladies

  1. Why would you rather have computer animated women? So you are saying that you like your women to be "fake" in some sense? You like your women to be perfect, its impossible for anyone to be perfect no matter how gorgeous they are or intelligent...everyone has flaws!!!!!

  2. Don't you think you need to move to hollywood if you want an animated woman? There people do pay for surgery to look "perfect." Are you saying you'd prefer women to look computer animated over looking like a natrual woman with all the parts and features she was born with?

  3. I'm confused. You say that "it is not a competition," but then you say that "you can't beat the computer animated women." Your second statement implies that there is a competition going on between real and synthetic women. Could you clarify this idea?

  4. Im implying that, the odds are stacked in the favor of the computer genertated women. She has "perfect" everything. she can sell anything she can be anything she can be changed into exactly what she needs to fit into. The problem is that people care to much. I do not compaire these digitally changed women to the the women i see in my day to day life. I dont even compaire them to run way models. All i am saying is people need to seperate the fact that these people arent real people, and dont try to compair these fake women to the women in real life. They are actors, they are phoney, so why idolize it? why give it so much attention that blossums into a compairson? If the two different, leave them different.
